Seasonal Florida Landscape To-Do Checklist
Love your landscape! A vital part of your home, your landscape needs attention just like your home interiors. My easy to follow checklist helps central Floridians keep their landscape flourishing throughout every season, all year long.
Late December / January - Winter
Watch for freezing temperatures
Plant winter annuals, vegetables and herbs
Fertilize winter annuals
Watch for fungus in lawns
Cut back on watering, fertilizing and trimming
Check irrigation systems. Do not use if we get rain.
Minor lawn maintenance and trimming at this time.
March - Spring
Maintenance starts now – mowing and trimming
Fertilize trees, plants, flowers and lawn now
Check irrigation system – Spring is usually dry
Great time to plant and refresh beds with mulch
The weather is beautiful – get out and enjoy
May - Summer
Fertilize ban in effect
Check irrigation systems – turn off if not needed
Trim trees and palms
Plant summer flowers and perennials
Build a gazebo, pergola or install shade sales
Check for fungus and insects to keep your lawn healthy
August - (Still) Summer
Lots of rain – turn irrigation system off
Fertilizer ban is in effect
Heavy trimming and grass mowing at this time – keep up!
Great time to plant trees and palms
Check and improve the drainage on your property
October – Fall
Mowing can happen every other week and final trimming can be done in October
Adjust irrigation and watering
Landscape and sod yards
Mitigate fungus and lawn pests
Plant herbs, vegetables, and fall flowers such as annuals like impatiens, geraniums and begonias
Stay hurricane prepared – hurricane season doesn’t end until November 30
Fertilize grass, plants and trees early October
Re-mulch all planting beds with mulch, pine bark or pine straw
Check LED lighting systems and reset timers
Fix, repair or add to your hardscape
